What are the guest rooms like?
The Albany Ronald McDonald House offers 25 bedrooms with private bathrooms, all equipped with a shower or tub. The rooms have both heat and air conditioning and are furnished with queen beds. Some rooms also offer twin beds, and several are handicap-accessible. Roll-away beds and cribs are available upon request. Bed linens and towels are provided. Wireless internet access is available at no charge.
What about security at the house?
Upon check-in, you will be given a key to your room and an access code for the front and back doors of the house. Please do not share this number with visitors. For the safety of our guests and your possessions, the door to your room and all outside doors should be kept locked at all times.
How can I stay in touch?
Wireless internet access is available throughout the house, a family computer is located in the medical resource library and each guest room is equipped with a private phone for receiving calls and making local, collect or credit card calls. Between the hours of 9 am and 9 pm, any incoming calls will be forwarded directly to your room. If you are unavailable, the call will be forwarded to voicemail. After 9 pm, our house manager will forward any emergency calls. After-hour callers may also reach you directly by entering your extension number while the nighttime message is playing. The extension number is your room number plus 100 (e.g., the extension for Room 16 is 116).

Are meals provided?
Thanks to our generous community volunteers and meal partners, a hot meal is provided for our guests each evening between 5 and 6 pm If you’re not available at that time, there is usually plenty of food in the sharing refrigerator that can be reheated at your convenience. In addition, guests enjoy full use of two well-equipped kitchens and are welcome to any food, beverages or cooking supplies stored in the cupboards or sharing refrigerator.
Should you have special dietary requirements or food preferences, you may purchase food, label it with your name and the date (using the markers and stickers provided) and store it in the family refrigerator or the section of the pantry allocated for your room. Upon your departure, we ask that you please discard any food items that cannot be used by others.
Please note: Food and beverages are to be consumed in the kitchen, dining room or basement areas only. Please do not take food or beverages into your bedroom or the other common areas.
Is parking available?
A parking area for families and staff is located at the rear of the house. Free parking is also available on the street.
How can I travel to and from the hospital?
Albany Medical Center Hospital is located within walking distance of the house, but complementary shuttle service to and from the hospital is available Monday through Friday, from 4:30am until midnight, by calling (518) 262-4444 ext 2. After hours and on weekends, to call for a shuttle dial (518) 262-3777. Limited transportation may also be available for medical appointments outside the hospital for those families who do not have their own means of transport.
What areas of the house are for everyone’s use?
Our guests have full access to the common areas of the house, including kitchens, living rooms, playrooms, dining room, laundry room, medical resource library and playground area.
The house has two fully equipped kitchens that you are welcome to use. Stoves, refrigerators, freezers, microwaves, cookware, bakeware, utensils and dishes are all available.
Family Health Library
A medical resource library with information on childhood illnesses, tips for coping, inspirational books and more is available for your convenience.
Family computers are provided in the family health library in the Red House and in the Media Room of the Green House. The internet access is provided. Please observe the guidelines for use.
Washers, dryers and laundry supplies are available at no charge. An iron and ironing board are also provided.
There are multiple living rooms throughout the house where you can read, watch TV, play piano or board games, or just relax.
There are several rooms in the house set aside for play, as well as an attractive playground in the rear of the house. Children will find many sources of entertainment, including toys, books, trains, board games, dress-up clothes, electronic gaming systems, DVDs and videos.
